GENERAL FAQs
WHO IS THE BEACON PROJECT FOR?
The Beacon Project is for any man who’s suffered the unexpected/traumatic loss of a sibling, spouse, parent, or child. All stages of grief are welcome, from recent to many years into their journey.
DO I HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN TO BE INVOLVED?
Any and all grieving men are welcome to join The Beacon Project, and at the same time our focus is to consistently point people to Jesus, pray, worship, and study the Scriptures together to understand where God is in the midst of our grief.
HOW DOES THE BEACON PROJECT SUPPORT GRIEVING MEN?
Our main focus it to provide community (both digitally and in-person), care through counseling and retreats, and clarity through content and curriculum for small groups.
IS THERE A COST TO THE BEACON PROJECT?
With tremendous gratitude to the donors who keep The Beacon Project going, we are able to provide many of our services free of charge or heavily subsidized (i.e. counseling partnerships and retreats). Our goal is to be able to do it all completely free for those who need it. If you’re interested in helping make that vision come to life, click here to donate.
RETREAT FAQS
WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN GRIEF RETREAT?
The sole focus of each retreat we host will be for men to engage God in the midst of their grief, hear who they are while they carry it, and allow Jesus to invite them into a new sense of belonging.
We will spend time learning, worshipping, praying, sharing meals, adventuring, late night conversations, making memories, and forging relationships that will last a lifetime.
WHO CAN ATTEND THE RETREATS?
Almost every retreat is available to men who have suffered any unexpected loss (parent, spouse, sibling, child) at any stage of life. We host a retreat every January/February specifically for men who have lost a child late in pregnancy, at birth, or beyond.
DO I HAVE TO SHARE MY STORY?
Our goal is for these retreats to spur you into vulnerability with your new brothers in Christ. While sharing isn’t required, it’s a natural byproduct of the culture of who we are as an organization.
WHAT IF I’M NOT READY TO TALK ABOUT MY GRIEF?
Still come and join us.
HOW MUCH DO RETREATS COST?
Most of our retreats will be made heavily subsidized or free of charge to you, outside of travel. Our goal is always “get yourself here and we’ll take care of the rest.” Some specific retreats (like ones taking place in theme parks) will have extra costs involved like food and park tickets pending fundraising efforts.
IS THERE SUPPORT AFTER THE RETREAT ENDS?
Yes! Every retreat group will be added to a private communication channel to remain connected to one another.
